There are various programs that are run through the Schubert Centre. At this time, please be aware that some of these programs are not running at the moment due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Bingo – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

Coordinator: Shirley Higgins

A fun game of chance played with cards having numbered squares corresponding to numbered balls drawn at random and won by covering five such squares in a row. It is also a social gathering at which bingo is played. With great prices to be won.

    Birthday Lunch– (Not offered at this time – COVID)

      Bridge – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

      Bridge is a card game played with four people sitting at a card table using a standard deck of 52 cards (no jokers).

        Canasta – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

        Coordinator: Jackie Huntley

        Canasta Is a card game of the rummy family of games believed to be a variant of 500 Rummy Although many variations exist for two, three, five or six players, it is most commonly played by four in two partnerships with two standard decks of cards. Players attempt to make melts of seven cards of the same rank and “go out” by playing all cards in their hand. It is “the most recent card game to have achieved worldwide status as a classic”.

          Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 10:00am-2:00pm
          Provides food/coffee services to Members of the Schubert Centre and the Community at large. Providing hot meals Monday through Friday with sandwiches and soup on Saturday. Meals to go are available but must be pre-ordered. Frozen to go meals are always available.

              Crafters – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

              Hours of Operation: Tuesday mornings September – June; 8:30am–11:30am
              Provides teaching and help to anyone who wants to learn crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch, needle point and weaving. Volunteers and members are encouraged to learn and create anything they wish with materials that are on hand or put out on the sales table.

                Cribbage – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

                Cribbage, or crib, is a card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points.

                      Floor Curling is a modified version of the Olympic sport of curling with one major difference – No Need for Ice!

                        Honour System
                        Free library of various novels. Borrow as many as you like and bring them back when you are finished! We also have a large print section. Jigsaw Puzzles available as well, take one leave one.

                            Meals on Wheels

                            Hours of Operation: Delivery in Vernon Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 11:30am-12:30pm
                            Providing affordable, hot, nutritious & delicious, low salt, low fat meals. Diabetic or vegetarian meals available on request. Available to anyone who has difficulty purchasing & preparing meals.
                            Meals provided by the Meals On Wheels program are ordered Monthly and delivered to recipients by a dedicated volunteer team, three times a week.

                              Membership

                              Join or renew your membership. Provides numerous programs and activities for seniors in and around Vernon to enjoy all year round. Come enjoy some of the benefits of being a member.
                              Annual Membership is $50 per year, $140 for 3 years and/or $1000 lifetime membership.

                                    Scabble – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

                                    Coordinator: Carole Hayhurst & Margarete Bryant

                                    Hours of Operation: Wednesday; 10:00am-12:00pm
                                    A word game in which two to four players score points by placing tiles, each bearing a single letter onto a game board to form a word. Their word must joint onto a word already on the board. Enjoy fun and friendship.

                                        Tai Chi – (Not offered at this time – COVID)

                                        Tai chi, short for T’ai chi ch’üan or Tàijí quán, sometimes colloquially known as “Shadowboxing”, is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for defence training, health benefits, and meditation. The term taiji is a Chinese cosmological concept for the flux of yin and yang, and ‘quan’ means fist.
